Greenhalgh Kerr are pleased to announce the appointment of its Managing Director, Richard Kerr, as President of the Lancashire and Cheshire Association of the Institute of Revenues Rating and Valuation.

The Institute has a membership of over 2,400 and supports its members’ professional and personal development and the sharing of best practice in local authority ratings, including both Business Rates and Council Tax.

Richard, a member of the Lancashire and Cheshire Association for over 10 years, was appointed by outgoing president Catherine Nicholson at the Association’s AGM hosted by Richard at Albert’s in Standish on 21 April 2023.

On accepting the appointment Richard set out his agenda for his presidency, the priority being to raise awareness and drive uptake of apprenticeships in the local government ratings sector.

On his agenda, Richard said,

There’s a large pot of Government money just waiting to be accessed to help develop the next generation of local government ratings officers. Take up across the country has been sporadic so far and I aim to change that in Lancashire and Cheshire and make this an area of best practice in recruiting local young people to the sector.”

Whilst looking forward to his time in office Richard was also keen to thank his fellow committee members, past and present, for the hard work they put in in keeping the Association going through the pandemic and maintaining its position as one of the most active associations in the country,

“The work you guys put in during Covid was incredible. You went above and beyond in difficult times, personally and professionally, and I have taken over a thriving association because of that, for which I’m truly grateful.”

Greenhalgh Kerr congratulates Richard on his appointment and wish him all the best for his forthcoming year in office. We’d also like to thank the members from both the local and national association who attended the AGM and made it such a special day for us all.

We are confident in our work and we know that recoveries is a key part of a lender or creditor’s business

We are confident in our work and we know that recoveries is a key part of a lender or creditor’s business. We have designed our pilot projects to give lenders and creditors the comfort and confidence in our service before formally and fully switching recoveries providers. This time also allows new clients to benchmark our service levers and results against existing providers and others.

How it works

01

You choose 10 recoveries cases

You choose 10 recoveries cases to get us started. We’ll deliver our usual onboarding protocol where we’ll get to know you and your systems, culture, methods, preferences, and requirements.

02

We get started

We assess each case by setting a strategy then grading and reporting on the case in terms of prospects and timescales and cost. We make immediate contact with debtors, and pursue a recovery in our tried and tested ways.

03

We review

We deliver ongoing, structured, tailored reports as per your needs and carry out a full 3-month review on these 20 cases. There we’ll discuss how we have worked together, patterns we have seen in your borrowers, your systems, your documents, your pre-legal conduct, outcomes, highs and lows, legal costs (and costs borne by debtors), and possible improvements in all of these.

04

No strings

We carry on working in this way until all cases have been concluded. You are then free to carry on your discussions with us or to use the experience and market intelligence gained by working with us in the future.

Lenders and creditors have nothing to lose, and everything to gain, by engaging with us on a pilot project.
