IRRV Conference : Rates Avoidance Forum #2

Thanks to the success and popularity of this event last year, we have decided to hold another rates avoidance forum during the IRRV conference in Telford.

It will take place on Wednesday 4 October 2017 12.30pm to 2.00pm.

This time we are pleased to announce that assisting Richard Kerr in leading the forum will be Tom Gosling, a barrister at 23 Essex Street Chambers in Manchester.  Tom handles a lot of the rates avoidance litigation for Greenhalgh Kerr and has successfully acted on a wide range of cases including sham leases, Makro schemes and charitable occupation.

Tom will lead the discussion with “See you in Court – strategy and tips from the front line in defeating rates avoidance”.

The idea is to give revenue managers and practitioners practical tips and advice on how to deal with disputed or avoidance NNDR matters so that the local authority’s case is as strong as possible before it comes to court.  Tom will use his experience and expertise to provide highly relevant feedback based on his presentation of those cases before the court.

Richard and Tom will then be on hand to discuss any current cases attendees may have.  What proved very successful last year was the ability to share common problems and maybe find common solutions to those problems.
